چکیده
Abstract The lack of turfgrass diversity in cool‐season sod production is related to information inefficiencies, such as the agronomic available on improved, low‐input species, fine fescues ( Festuca spp.). Collaborative research between Purdue University and Minnesota investigated influence species mixtures harvest (production strength) storage limitations sod. Field experiments were established 2018 West Lafayette, IN, 2019 St. Paul, MN. Treatments included 12 that consisted following five species: strong creeping red fescue rubra L. ssp. Gaudin), Chewings F . commutata hard F. brevipila Tracey), tall arundinacea Schreb.), Kentucky bluegrass Poa pratensis L.). Data turf cover, vertical growth rate, tensile strength, handling, shelf‐life transplant success collected at multiple timings from 10 24 mo after planting. majority mixtures, especially those containing ≥33% fescue, produced high quality similar standard comparison 100% was not severely affected when stored for 24–72 h immediately a spring or autumn harvest. Sod including “rhizomatous fescue,” consistently resulted lowest strength handling. Overall, producers growing may be able only reduce management inputs, but also yield good with mixtures.

Export of manure phosphorus and nitrogen in turfgrass sod.
Regulatory mandates have increased demand for best management practices (BMPs) that will reduce nutrient loading on watersheds impaired by excess manure P and N. Export of manure P and N in turfgrass sod harvests is one BMP under consideration. This study quantified amounts and percentages of P and N removed in a sod harvest for different rates of manure and inorganic P and N. Six treatments co...
متن کاملAssessment of a turfgrass sod best management practice on water quality in a suburban watershed.
The disposal of manure on agricultural land has caused water quality concerns in many rural watersheds, sometimes requiring state environmental agencies to conduct total maximum daily load (TMDL) assessments of stream nutrients, such as nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). A best management practice (BMP) has been developed in response to a TMDL that mandates a 50% reduction of annual P load to the...

The feedstock characteristics of the conversion platform will influence the optimal harvest and post harvest management practices for switchgrass. However, many of the harvest management practices are tied to plant phenology and will be similar across platforms. Proper harvest and storage of switchgrass will help provide a consistent and high-quality feedstock to the biorefinery. Bioenergyspeci...
